Rahul to campaign in Maharashtra Wednesday

Mumbai, Oct 6 (IANS): Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will Wednesday launch his election campaign for the Oct 15 Maharashtra assembly elections here, a party official said.

He will start with a rally in the historic town of Mahad in Raigad district, and follow it up with a public meeting in Latur, Marathwada region.

Gandhi's visit is significant for the Congress as he is the first central party leader to campaign for the crucial elections where the party is battling huge odds to bag power for the fourth consecutive term.

Mahad in Raigad in the coastal Konkan region bears historical importance for the people of the state.

While Raigad was the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji's Maratha kingdom, Chavdar Lake in Mahad was the venue of B.R. Ambedkar's famous Water Satyagraha of March 20, 1927, after which Dalits and untouchables were permitted to use the lake.

The Latur rally will be held in Ausa, in Marathwada region, an erstwhile Congress stronghold and home town of the late Vilasrao Deshmukh and former Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj Patil.

Top state leaders, including former chief ministers Prithviraj Chavan, Ashok Chavan, state party chief Manikrao Thakre, and other senior leaders will be present for Gandhi's rallies.

I think, Congress should give up any hopes of gaining ground in Maha now as they have decided Rahul to campaign there!!!
Congress will be down and out in Maha with Rahul campaigning there...
He does not have the Charisma of an ordinary politician even...
Congress lost miserably in LS is solely because of projecting RG as their leader, who has no leadership qualities.

This is just wrong statement. Rahul was projected in a negative way by Media and BJP. The reality is Rahul is far honest and non corrupt with a vision than Modi whose achievement is drama statements and FEKUgiri. Rahul has time with him and people will realize their mistake in wrongly judging Rahul. The growth of right wing BJP as opposition for congress is bad omen for India. It should have been third front or erstwhile Janatha party.
