Three militants surrender in Tripura


Agartala, Oct 11 (IANS): Three tribal militants surrendered to the Assam Rifles in Tripura, an official statement said here Saturday.

"Following all out pressure from security forces, three tribal guerrillas belonging to newly formed Bru Democratic Front of Mizoram (BDFM) laid down their arms and ammunition Friday before the officials of Assam Rifles at Khedachara in north Tripura," the statement from the Assam Rifles said.

The guerillas deposited three pistols, including two made in China.

The statement said currently the BDFM - a breakaway faction of the National Liberation Front of Tripura - is active in the tri-junction of Tripura, Bangladesh and Mizoram.

It said the group has been found to be involved in extortion and kidnappings in Tripura and Mizoram.
