Mumbai, Oct 23: Goregaon Karnataka Sangha held their annual 'Ammembal Sadashiva Navada Charity Yakshagana Awards -2014' at the Barkur Rukmini Shetty Memorial mini hall at Goregaon west on Wednesday evening October 22.

In the programme chaired by Sangha president Payyaru Ramesh Shetty to celebrate the anniversary of the sangha, well known local musician and Yakshagana artiste Narayana P Bangera was honored by 'Ammembala Sadashiva Navada' cash award.

Payyaru Ramesh Shetty lighted the traditional lamp and cut the cake to set the founders day programme into motion. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Goregaon Karnataka Sangha is an example for co existence.

"The contributions from the members had made the sangha grow. Our efforts will be fruitful when we give shape to the future projects for the next generation. The contribution of women in the sangha is praiseworthy. May the children of members become members in order to
continue the sangha." he said.

"There was a time when students used to adore their teachers. However these days the teachers are made to wait for students and they have to remain quiet if they do not come." he lamented.

"Yakshagana is a cultural world of color and it has a personal language. However it is said that artistes get spoiled due to art lovers. Vices are close to artistes and an artiste can grow as a clean artiste only when he stays away from them," said Bhaskar Shetty.

"The personality of Narayana Bangera is unique. He was not identified as he was calm and a person of few words even though he is well qualified with several diplomas. The award is prestigious as it has gone to a person with several positive points." added Bhaskar Shetty in
his congratulatory speech.

Former president V P Kotian, S M Shetty, G T Acharya, senior member Sanjiva Shetty Katkere and Padmaja spoke explaining the starting of the sangha, the way it has proceeded and its aspirations. They also recollected the service of founders and those who made it progress and praised them.

V P Kotian in his speech said that he is in the sangha since 1970 and there was no scarcity of participation by members. However due to other groups started lately, the members are not finding enough time to participate in the sangha activities now. He asked all the members join in unity to make all programmes in sangha a success.

Padmaja Mannoru in her speech appreciated the service of people in the society who established the sangha. Their far sightedness has enabled them to gather for social cause. The objectives of the founders will have to be fulfilled, she said.

Chitrapu K M Kotian, Jayakar D Poojary and others were present.

Padmaja Mannur welcomed. Sumathi R Shetty led the prayer. Veda Suvarna, Vasanthi Kotekar and Seema Kulkarni sang poems created by Suneethi Udyavar. Sangha honorary chief secretary Meena Kalavar gave details and compered the programme. Vidya Deshpande proposed vote of
thanks.
