Udupi: Newly elected ZP president chairs general session

Udupi, Oct 30: The newly elected president of zilla panchayat, Savitha S Kotian chaired a general session, at VS Acharya stadium, Rajathadri, here on Thursday, October 30.

Padubidri Geethanjali Suvarna during the general session raised an issue by showing a picture that PDO Gopal allegedly disrespected the flag by smoking at the flag post. She urged people to immediately suspend PDO Gopal.









Executive officer of zilla panchyat, Ananth Mavudi said that city is pollution free but Maravante-Trasi beaches are polluted because of littered waste by tourists. He stressed to take stern action against people who pollute the beaches. Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan should not be limited for just one day, he added.

Karkala Taluk ZP members complained that multi-irrigation project was a failure by the concerned department in Hebri and Nitte Taluk. 98% of capital had been invested but the concerned department has not bothered about water supply till now. Last year 84 villages faced water scarcity out of total 146 villages.

Ganapathi Salian complained that endowment department blocked the NH road with the permission of panchayat, which connects Anegudde temple. This has resulted in reduced number of devotees visiting the place.

According Arun Shetty Padur there was malpractice taking place in SSLC examination. The education institutions were helping students in alleged malpractice to have better results. The president of zilla panchyat has ordered a close eye on such activities.

Mallika Balakrishna Poojary said that mismanagement of waste disposal has made Brahmavar –Kunjal roads filled with foul stench.

She also alleged that there was malpractice in distribution of RTC. Land was available in Brahmavar premises but revenue department gave false information about available land. If it was cleared, homeless could get the land.

Ganapati Shriyan said Koraga community was badly suffering because of discrimination. They could be provided with available land. He urged IDDP to take immediate measures in this regard.

MLC Prathapchandra Shetty also spoke in the meeting. Prakash T Mendon, ZP vice-president, standing committee members Gouri Devaiga, Arun Shetty, Indira Shetty, Vijaykumar Hegde and Upendra Nayak among others were present.
