14,000 liquor bottles seized at Saudi border

Riyadh, Nov 12 (IANS): An attempt to smuggle over 14,000 liquor bottles into Saudi Arabia was foiled when custom officials seized the supply being carried in a truck.

The bottles were stashed in boxes, hidden in the truck and covered with pieces of iron.

Customs officers of Al-Batha Border post foiled the bid to smuggle 14,340 liquor bottles into the country, saudigazette.com quoted customs director Abdulrahman Al-Mahna as saying.

The officers got suspicious when they noticed that the truck was not carrying any declared consignment. Following an intensive search, the bottles were seized and the truck driver was held.
