Saudi authorities warn against hunting migratory birds

Riyadh, Nov 19 (IANS): Saudi Arabian authorities have warned citizens against hunting or coming into contact with migratory birds that are currently travelling through the country to avoid bird flu, media reported Wednesday.

The warning from the agriculture ministry comes in the wake of recent news reports of bird flu originating in Europe, the Arab News reported.

The ministry said that European health and veterinary authorities have taken the necessary measures to prevent bird-to-human contamination.

It further stressed that the initial 2006 ban on importing live birds into the country is still valid, and is a measure that will ensure the blockage of any virus of this type from entering the country.
