The accused passenger Abdul Manaf Akkoth, aged about 26 years, is a resident of Kozhikode district, Kerala. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on November 29 at about 8.40 hours by Jet Airways Flight No 9W531 from Dubai.

Two persons who work at the Airport named Ratheesh of M/s Flemingo Duty Free Shop, and B S Nijeesh Raj, working as a salesman in two firms - Words & Worth Book Shop as well as Teaicoff Snack Bar, have also helped him in this smuggling activity. Ratheesh and Nijeesh Raj are from South Kerala.

In my opinion, we should make a simple customs duty rule for Gold.
    1. Crude gold of not allowed
    2. Ladies can have gold and jewelry up to 100 gms which includes used personal jewelry.
    3. Gents can have gold and jewelry up to 50 gms on above condition.
Any und gold and jewelry must be confiscated and heavily fined.
Duty free allowances should be based on weight and not value.

Why is that South Kerala people are working in Mangalore Airport? Why dont they recruit Mangloreans? Even in Railway Stations second language is Malayalam. Majority of people from Kasaragod are involved in smuggling gold and Mangalore Airport is losing its reputation.

thats OK... kisi ke hasi ka bhi kaaran bano, toh life mein kuch haasil kiya samajh loonga!! :)

Just see how many cases of kasargod are caught!... last 10 years, u think people were not smuggling!?

Let me tell you, my own friend from mangalore, got few bangles for his mom, and he WORE a bangle on his hand, as if he is a woman!... he knew it is haraam!... everyone gets these..

but since Modi has come, he has special target for KASARGOD and custom officials are also strict with them!... why do u think no mangalorean is caught doing this?

I knew smuggling from my kiddo days dude! Bhatkal and areas were the place to get 2 in 1 stereo, perfume and cloth etc!! Kasargod is hub now... once upon a time, Mumbai's mazgaon dock area was... that smuggling money itself is used to spread terrorism!...

Modi knows this very well... and he has mentioned kasargod many a times! get it?

I have been always wondering how many more cases may have passed off undetected (deliberately). Grease the palms, the bag will be out, if you bargain, you are in the net.

I assume just 20% of the cases may have been registered, rest may have been shared by all involved.
