Saudi Arabia approves pact to hire Indian domestics

Riyadh, Dec 9 (IANS): The Saudi Arabia government has approved an agreement for recruitment of Indian domestic workers including maids, media reported.

The council of ministers, chaired by Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defence, Monday approved the Saudi Arabia’s agreement with Delhi, Arab News reported Tuesday.

"The agreement aims to protect the rights of domestic workers as well as their employers and regulate the contractual relationship between the two parties,” said Haj Minister and Acting Information Minister Bandar Hajjar.

The agreement also aims at organising the recruitment process and controlling the cost of recruitment in both countries.

"It stipulates that such domestic labour shall have no criminal records, be trained in specialised centres in household work and educated on the kingdom’s customs and traditions as well as the terms and conditions of the employment contract,” Hajjar said.

Any new contract, rules just for namesake, once you land in their country, their rules, their law.only money power& in most ministries, police one or another from employers family, relatives work,so its easy for them to make wasta and twist any case or to make false charges on worker.and major problem is employer holding passport&no fix work hours.
so to make a good change,Indians need to advertise of jobs offer 12,000 plus salaries to maids for 8 hours,or less if for part time maid jobs.

I agree with your all points. On and above that, it is shameful for a country that sent orbiter mission to mars, to send our 25 to 45 age group women as maids. Earlier only above 45 age were allowed, but this govt has now relaxed that age condition too.

The Saudi's have tried maids and drivers from every country willing to send their citizens to work as indentured labour for such meagre salaries. The Ministries along with the Embassies of all Asian countries have now put stringent conditions on the local governments, before they could employ their citizens for domestic work. Perhaps, India is the most lax (compared to the rest) when it comes to protecting their citizens.

There are a small hand full of people who are paid and treated well, but an overwhelming majority are abused. My sincere advice to all potential immigrants is talk to their Friends, Neighbours and Family and to fully understand the pro’s and con’s of working as domestics before you leave the shores of India.

When there are ample opportunities to work here with dignity, with quite less income, but can stay with family, why go to SAUDI, that too as domestic servant?
Our Govt should put restrictions on domestic servants, unless they are in grave needs like WIDOWS.
Shouldn't allowed to go where law and precedence is not quite fair!

    Dear Indian domestic works,

In our country there are good Salaries for drivers and House maids. It is far better than coming to Saudi Arabia as domestic worker. Because, only 5% are leaving peaceful life and remaining 95% are crying daily!!!!!. Once you came here it is very difficult to go back to India. My advice to all is better to stay with your family and work in India itself or any other counties.

The way the oil prices falling down due to alternate energy consumption, the oil boom is going to be over in coming years. Al-Qaeda will also run out of money and try to find employment elsewhere.

The contract should be mutual and should allow Indians to hire Saudi citizen as domestic help as well.

If all domestic workers get their 15 lakh share can enjoy throughout with interest from fixed deposits. Why should they go to Saudi Arabia as domestics?
Modi should expedite this project quickly.

But it's not in our culture to export our citizens as domestic servants/maids. I'm sure our brand new govt, unlike last 60y, has better plans for our people on our own soil than to toil on foreign soil or rather sand. What say people?
