EIFF annual sports meet concludes at Sharjha versity ground

Sharjha, Dec 21: Sport is far more than a luxury or a form of entertainment. Access to and participation in sport is a human right and essential for individuals of all ages to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. Sort - from play and physical activity to organized competitive sport has an important role in all societies. Sport is critical to a child's development. It teaches core values such as co-operation and respect. It improves health and reduces the likelihood of disease. It is a significant economic force providing employment and contributing to local development. It brings individuals and communities together, bridging cultural and ethnic divides. Sport offers a cost-effective tool to meet many development and peace challenges, and help achieve the global integrity.

Considering its importance in present stressful life, Emirates India Fraternity Forum, UAE, Karnataka chapter organizes sports meet every year especially on occasion of UAE national Day Being 43rd National Day the sports meet was held at Sharjah University Ground on Friday December 12.

 

The sports meet which began at 8 am was inaugurated by Nasir Mohammed. Speaking on the occasion he said, " The potential of sport is a tool for development and peace, feel regret to say that the sport remains outside the mainstream of thinking among the society. Sport must be seen as byproduct of overall development".

The spectacular event was inaugurated with four teams wearing different colour of uniforms in fully crowded stadium with EIFF members and spectators.

Separate competitions were organized exclusively for ladies and children.

The sports meet featured many activities and games such as 100 meters, 200 meters, 4X100 relay, Kabaddi, volleyball, cricket, football and tug of war.
Last year’s champions, Bur Dubai again proved their ability and enthusiasm, by winning the overall champion ship second time for the year 2014.

The winners were as follows: 100,200 meters, cricket and relay were won by Burdubai, football by Deira, Kabaddi by Burdubai, Tug of War by Abu Dhabi and volleyball by Sharjah.

Players showed unquestionable commitment, discipline and impressive performance in all the games worth watching throughout the day.

Janab Tanveer Ahmed was the chief guest for the closing ceremony, while addressing the participants and spectators, he said, "Good health is the best blessing of Almighty. We must be keen to keep our health always praiseworthy. Sport is one of the major tools to establish Unity".

He also distributed the prizes and trophies to the winners. The sports meet concluded with vote of thanks by Majeed Aladka.
