Fifth Corporate Cricket Cup 2014 concludes at Sohar

Oman, Dec 21: The fifth edition of the Mangalore Friends Corporate Cup organized by Mangalore Friends Sohar was conducted on December 12 in Sohar, Sultanate of Oman.

The tournament as usual opened up with big fanfare and 16 corporate companies participated in the biggest corporate tournament in Sohar.

Just like the previous years, an inter-school cricket tournament was also organized for the third time along with the corporate tournament in which Indian School, Pakistan School, Bangladesh School and Sohar International School participated.

Sudhir Nayak thanked all the sponsors namely Mangalore Balaga Sohar, Sohar Aluminum, Al Nahdha, Shamal Plastic Industries LLC, Oman Oasis Water Company LLC, Al Seer Group, Naseem Sohar International, Hassan Abdullah and Partners LLC, Sudhir Kumar, president Mangalore Balaga Sohar, Richard D’Souza, Jagath Pal, Shivaprakash Rai and Nitin D Kulkarni for their continuous support for the tournament.

The interschool tournament had a classic India Vs Pakistan match in the semifinals. The match went up to the wire and Indian School won the match with one wicket and one ball to spare. In the other semifinals Bangladesh School Sohar defeated Sohar International School to enter the finals. In the finals, Indian School team defeated Bangladesh School to complete a hat trick of victories in Mangalore Friends Sohar tournament.

In the Corporate Cup, Al Nahdha retained the trophy for the fourth consecutive time by defeating Sohar Pride – Vale in the finals. Al Nahdha reached the finals by defeating Shamal Plastic Ind LLC in the semifinals, which was a keenly contested match. In the other semifinals Sohar Pride Vale got the better of L&T MFY to enter the finals for the first time.

A grand prize distribution ceremony was also organized. The chief guests comprised of representatives of the sponsor companies and other prominent members of the expat community in Sohar distributed the prize on the occasion.

The Best Batsman was Rizwan of Al Nahdha, Best Bowler was Simpson of Sohar Pride Vale and the man of the tournament was Rauf from Al Nahdha.

This edition being the fifth edition of the tournament was conducted by Mangalore Friends Sohar. The organizers made the event an invitational tournament. The tournament witnessed huge crowds and was declared a huge success by the players, spectators and the chief guests. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and cold drinks were provided by Mangalore Friends Sohar to all participants as well as visitors.

Cricket fans of Sohar are eagerly waiting for the next year’s tournament conducted by Mangalore Friends Sohar.
