Udupi: Accident near Bannadi, auto rickshaw driver killed

Udupi, Jan 13: In an accident which occurred near the brick kiln at Uplady near Bannadi in the district on the night of Sunday January 11, an auto rickshaw driver lost his life. He has been identified as Shankar Marakala.

At around 7.15 pm on Sunday, a Mahindra Bolero vehicle that was coming from the direction of Kota Junction swerved to extreme left when negotiating a small bend near the brick kiln at Uplady. In the process, the vehicle, which did not have any registration number, hit an auto rickshaw being driven by Shankara Marakala towards Kota from Achlady.

Marakala suffered extensive injuries in the accident. The locals took him to a private hospital in Brahmavar for treatment, but they were told that he was brought dead.

Because of the impact of the collision, the auto rickshaw was badly mangled. On a complaint filed by a local named Ganesh Amin, a case was registered in Kota police station.
