Puttur, Jan 15: In an incident which occurred at Karnoor Naganadka in Nettanige Mudnoor village in the taluk on Wednesday January 14, a woman died after the branch of a tree fell on her. She was collecting firewood in forest region at the time.

The deceased has been identified as Usha (29), wife of Shashidhar, from Naganadka. She had visited the forest along with some neighbours for collecting firewood. When cutting firewood, she was pulling the creeper which had surrounded the branch of a tree, when the branch suddenly snapped and fell on her.

Usha was seriously injured in the incident. She was brought to the government hospital in the town where she was treated, but to no avail.

It is gathered that the women from her village used to go into the forest twice every week to collect firewood. None of the other women present with her at the time suffered any injuries in the incident. A case stands registered in the rural police station here relating to the incident.
