Kundapur, Jan 15: Divakar Kharvi Gangolli, an employee of the state fisheries department, was assaulted during duty hours around 3.15 pm on Wednesday January 14.

Divakar happens to be the taluk secretary of Karnataka Government Employees Association. The attacker has been identified as G M Rafique from Gangolli.

It is gathered, that Divakar Kharvi's brother was engaged in fish trade, in partnership with Rafique about five years back. The two developed differences and the partnership broke down about two years back. Reportedly there was animosity between the two on account of this.

Divakar Kharvi, who got himself admitted to the government hospital here, said in his police complaint that Rafique had visited his home whilst he was away on January 12, and threatened his wife. He also added that Rafique had followed this up by barging into his office on Wednesday evening and tried to murder him.

Dinakar Shetty, taluk president of Karnataka Government Employees Association, has condemned Rafique for having entered Divakar Kharvi's office during duty hours, and attacking him with the intention of murdering him. He has requested the police to immediately arrest Rafique and take stern legal action against him.
