Bantwal, Jan 16: Station house officer (SHO) of the town police station here, Nandakumar, requested the people not to unnecessarily bring political pressure on police every time some sensitive thing happens, and instead, cooperate with the police in enforcing law.

He was addressing a peace meet held on Thursday January 15 at the police station, which was held in the backdrop of the proposed Virat Hindu Hridaya Sangama being held on Friday at Puttur. He also asked those who hang banners, buntings etc in public places relating to a programme to remove them immediately after the programme without fail.

He said that the police here are finding it a challenge to maintain law and order in the town because of the functioning style of the municipal council. He asked municipal councillor, Jagadish Kundar, who was present at the meeting, to invite police officials for the next general session of the municipal council.

Haroon Rashid, JDS Bantwal constituency president, urged the police to take strict action against youngsters from different communities, who unnecessarily undertake certain initiatives which might incite the other side,without obtaining prior permission.

Chandrashekaraiah, sub-inspector (crime) of the station, said that the police are issuing permission letters for various religious and cultural programmes without strictly weighing everything in the eyes of law. He asked the people to show the same level of cooperative attitude towards the police.
