Bengaluru, Jan 16: More than 90 per cent of locals have been provided jobs in information technology, biotechnology and other private industries located in 15 districts of Mysore and Belgaum Divisions.

A survey conducted by the Labour Department in the 15 districts found that private industries have provided jobs to 67,343 persons, who included as many as 61,726 Kannadigas.

The State Cabinet has asked the Labour Department to submit a detailed report on the district and sector-wise employment status of Kannadigas in the private sector.

Minister of State for Labour P T Parameshwar Naik told reporters in Bengaluru on Friday that the data was collected for implemeting the State Cabinet's decision on making it mandatory for earmarking a certain percentage of jobs to Kannadigas in the private sector as recommended by the Sarojini Mahishi report.

The survey was completed in Mandya, Chikballapura, Shivamogga, Udupi, Vijapura, Hubballi, Gadag, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Yadagiri, Koppal, Raichur, Ballary, Kalaburagi, and Bidar. The survey would be completed soon in major cities of Bengaluru, Mysuru and Belagavi, he said.

He said the department would open school in Bellary, Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Hubballi, Mangaluru and Belagavi city corporation limits for providing quality education for children of construction workers.
