Udupi, Jan 27: To mark its tenth anniversary celebration, Brahmavar Sports Club held a two-day sports and cultural activities at Brahmavar S M S Pre University College Pandal.
Moodbidri Alvas education foundation president Dr M Mohan Alva presided over the programme.
The inter district flood lights Kabaddi tournament was inaugurated on Brahmavar Pre University college grounds on Saturday, January 24. Krishnaprasad Adyantaya, Managing trustee of Mookambika temple inaugurated the tournament and conveyed his best wishes. Brahmavar Sports Club president Bharath Kumar Shetty presided over the programme.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district fish dealers association president Yashpal Suvarna, Kolalgiri, St Antony church parish priest Fr David Lawrence Crasta, Udupi district Kabaddi association president Rajendra Suvarna, businessman Joseph Suares, club secretary Gregory D'Silva and others were present.
The national half-marathon race for men and women was held on Sunday, January 25. Additional deputy commissioner Kumar set the marathon in motion. Udupi district athletic association president K Balakrishna Hegde, businessman Belve Vasanth Shetty, Brahmavar Rotary's T Bhaskar Rai and former Udupi zilla panchayat president B Bhujanga Shetty inaugurated tournaments in different divisions.
Belliyappa A B of Moodbidri Alvas College and Archana K M of Alvas College won first prizes in men's and women's divisions respectively. In the running races held in order to encourage district sports persons, men and women, Sandeep Naik Cherkadi and Apeksha Cherkadi in under14 years, Dinesh Nitte and Bhoomika Shetty Amparu under17 years, Chidanand H V Nitte and Bindu K Nitte in the college division and Udaya Kumar Shetty Udupi and Arunakala S Rao Hiriadka won first prizes in their respective categories.
MLA Pramod Madhwaraj was the president of prize distribution ceremony. District police commissioner K Annamalai, former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Karwar's Prakruthi group of company's chairman M R Shetty, Mangalore University sports division director Dr Kishore Kumar C K, district BJP vice-president Belve Vasanth Kumar Shetty, district Athletic association president K Balakrishna Hegde, Sports club vice-president Joseph Suares, secretary Gregory D'Silva and others were present.
Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Brahmavara Little rock Indian school principal professor Mathew C Ninan, Bangalore's tax consultant A N Shetty, Bellary businessman Gurme Suresh Shetty were present.
Fr Sunil, Vanaja Poojarthi, Vishu Shetty, professor Mathew C Ninan and Soori Shetty Kaup were felicitated for their contribution in various social sectors.
