Officer probing NREGA irregularities collapses, passes away

Bantwal, Jan 28: An official from Bengaluru, who had been deputed to look into complaints of irregularities in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in Pilatabettu gram panchayat limits in the taluk suddenly collapsed and passed away. The tragedy occurred at Ninyaru within Pilatbettu gram panchayat limits on Wednesday January 27.

The deceased has been identified as Gururaj M Jambalagi from Belagavi district, working at Bengaluru. He was an official of rural development and panchayati raj department. It is learnt that Jambalagi, who had come with another officer, visited the gram panchayat office before heading to the site of work at Ninyaru. After inspection, he was walking towards his vehicle when he suddenly collapsed on the road.

Other officials present there rushed him to Punjalakatte primary health centre, where first aid was provided. He was being taken to Bantwal community health centre when he passed away, it is learnt.

Postmortem was conducted at the community health centre here. It is suspected that cardiac arrest would have been the cause of his death.

A case was registered in the police station here. Taluk panchayat president, Yashvanth Deraje, deputy secretary of zilla panchayat, N R Umesh, taluk panchayat executive officer, Cyprian Miranda, and others visited the hospital.
