Abu Dhabi: Indian cultural society, UAE helps needy Indian to return home

Media Release

Abu Dhabi, Feb 17: Indian cultural society, Abu Dhabi chapter (UAE) has once again extended its helping hand to an Indian worker to return back to India.

Shawkath, an Indian from Bihar, came to UAE last June with a dream and an intention of earning good livelihood for his family, through an agent to work for a manufacturing company, as an accountant with all service benefits.

However, upon landing in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Shawkath was forced to work as an office assistant with additional responsibilities of store keeping, etc. The owner of the company made him work for 12 hours a day without overtime, sick leave or any other benefits.

To his surprise, two months back the company had given him a resignation letter stating that his performance was not satisfactory and forced him to sign the resignation letter or work with half of current salary. Upon rejection, the company administration had confiscated his passport and withheld his 2 months’ salary and warned him of legal action.

Meanwhile, Shawkath approached Indian cultural society for advice and help. The representatives of Indian cultural society took the task in their hands and consulted the officials of the UAE labour office and Indian consulate office to clear the issue immediately. The relentless efforts of the Indian cultural society bore fruits and the company management cleared his salary dues and released his passport.

Indian cultural society members, Ashraf Machar, Iqbal Pandeshwara, Rashid Bejai, Irshad Kapu, Hanif Montepadau with the support of well-wishers, arranged his air ticket and repatriated the worker back home. Shawkath had no words to appreciate ICS’s help, and was extremely grateful to the association.

He conveyed his thanks to the team and wished that their efforts would continue in the coming days, and returned to his homeland recently.
Indian cultural society, UAE has got special appreciation and thanks for its commendable services for their humanitarian help.
