Trapped commuters rescued from monorail in Mumbai

Mumbai, March 15 (IANS): Around a dozen commuters trapped in a stuck monorail were rescued here on Sunday, officials said.

The incident happened near Bhakti Park station in the monorail running from Wadala to Chembur.

According to the preliminary information, the monorail stopped suddenly following a suspected power failure.

As the power supply did not resume and passengers were feeling uneasy in the coaches, a fire brigade was deployed for the rescue operation, officials said.

After nearly an hour, the fire brigade managed to rescue the passengers and two crew members of the monorail and brought them down safely.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mumbai North East Kirit Somaiya, taking a note of the incident, has rushed to the spot.
