Kundapur, Mar 24: Acting on credible information that immoral activities were going on in a house located along the national highway at Koteshwar here, the Kundapur police on Tuesday March 24 raided the house and detained a youth and a girl.

The couple, who were allegedly involved in immoral activity at the time of the raid, were released later.

The house is located near a hotel on the national highway at Koteshwar. It is said that the owner of the house had rented out a room in the back of the house to a local youth who used it to carry out immoral activities. The owner of the house is engaged in vending ice candies, and while would be away on work all day, his house was being reportedly used to carry out immoral activities. Despite being alerted by the locals several times, the owner refuted their claims, sources said.

It is said that on Tuesday, the youth who had rented the room came there with a girl from Udupi. Some people who noticed the couple enter the house grew suspicious and informed the police. The Kundapur police led by ASI Sudha Prabhu raided the house and took the couple to women police station. Their parents were called and they were let off with a warning, police sources said.

Locals alleged that the youth, who is said to be a partner in a finance firm, has been engaging in immoral activities from past few months. The girl from Udupi has been frequently spotted with the youth, it is learnt.

The locals expressed anger at the police for not filing a case despite detaining the couple in the police station all day long. They said that it was not right for the police to say that they could not file a case as the youth and the girl were adults and were involved in a relationship of their own will.

"A room has been rented just to indulge in immoral activities. Moreover, the bed in the room has been arranged in such a way that the room cannot be used for anything else. Despite this, the police have failed to take action. Such inaction will further encourage these activities," the locals said.

Asked if any action would be taken against the owner of the house, police said that a decision in this regard would be taken after investigation.
