Tokyo stocks open higher

Tokyo, April 16 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher in early trading on Thursday.

At 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 15.18 points, or 0.08 percent, from Wednesday to 19,884.94. The broader Topix index of all first section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 5.81 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,594.62, reported Xinhua.

Major gainers included iron and steel, mining and energy issues.
