Mangaluru: CCTVs in Madrasa building pointing towards houses, allege locals

Mohan Kuthar
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 1: Incensed by the fact that CCTV cameras fitted at Anjuman Mallagul Falah Madrasa building in Subhasnagar here have been pointed at the residential area located behind this building, locals held protest on Thursday April 30 evening. As the protesters stuck to their demand for the removal of these CCTV cameras, situation in the area turned tense.

On Thursday evening, four CCTV cameras were installed in the said building, which has been built in the residential area of Subhashnagar. Two among these cameras face the area located in behind the building. There are a number of houses behind this area, and these CCTVs are located in such a way that they capture activities happening around toilets of these residences. The locals alleged that these CCTV cameras interfere with the privacy of the residents in general, and women and girls in particular, as these cameras are able to record happenings inside and around their houses.

The situation turned tense, as the locality has a number houses belonging to both Hindus and Muslims. Assistant superintendent of police, Kalyani Shetty, Ullal station house officer, Pavitra Teja, and Ullal police sub-inspector, Bharati, stayed put in the area for sometime, and held talks with the protesters. When the policemen said that no steps would be possible immediately as the clerics were not present at the time, the locals stuck to the demand for the removal of these cameras immediately. The policemen told the crowd that they had examined the CCTV cameras and that the cameras have been positioned in such a way that privacy of individuals is not meddled with. They invited the women protesters to enter the Madrasa and check for themselves this fact, if they so desire.

When the protesters did not budge, Ullal station house officer told them that the police have blocked these CCTVs from getting any power connection, and promised to officially instruct the Madrasa office bearers on Friday morning to remove these CCTV cameras. Policemen from Ullal station and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) have been posted in the area to stop any untoward incidents from occurring.

There had been dispute over the construction of Madrasa in this residential area, and the locals had held protest against it, as soon as the Madrasa was built and mosque began functioning there. Later, the dispute had been settled after the microphone of the building was removed. On February 15 this year, another dispute had cropped up, after a gang assaulted a group of women who had protested against giving call for prayer from this building through loudspeakers. The gang which attacked the women was later attacked by another gang, giving rise to tension in the area. After the incident, KSRP contingent had been deployed in the area. Now another dispute has arisen in the matter of CCTV camera installation. Disputes relating to this building have been giving sleepless nights to the police since long.

dev.. Do you know the purpose of CCTV cameras? Let me enlighten you with this info. It can be used to record all the activities around(BOTH LEGAL AND ILLEGAL).

Now Lets consider what it covers. If the actual concern of the residents is that it covers the footage from the toilets (which i too agree that it is wrong), why are they not ready to see the recordings and the camera footage as suggested by the police and management for the Madaras? Now this makes room for further doubts about what their actual concern is all about.. can it be to make room for some goondas to attack the building?

If the cctv is really pointing to toilets, it is not just illegal it is the act of dirty minds. People justifying this are shows their filthy thoughts.. locals have better job than going to verify what is recorded and what is not recorded. Dirty minds have enough technique to manipulate the recordings too.

Rajesh, you are sitting in Udupi and this matter relates to Mangalore street…. Why are you scratching your head and getting KUJLI…… If the Mangalore public do not have the time to verify the facts, they will face the things…… You have a lot of time to read the comments and write many comments here… You can spare some time and help them to get to the bottom….If you feel that dirty minds can manipulate, similarly dirty minds can start a lot of rumors to cause Kujli to the people like you….. Still I suggest you to donate some jute bags to cover the little opening which is kept for the escape of hydrogen Peroxide gas….

CCTV cameras are not that powerful to record some one or something inside a building, rather it would help in stopping criminals from carrying out crimes(these can prevent house thefts inside their homes).
Those who fear them need to protect their windows & ventilators rather than asking the other party to stop installing them.
This whole episode is created just like previous ones to harass the people who had built the worship place despite objections.
Unless both the sides mend their ways nothing will prevent future altercation.
Police need to warn both the sides not to break the law or instigate communal passions for silly reasons, thereby helping the fringe elements to play a covert role in fueling riots in future.

It is obvious that the discomfort due to the sense that some one might watch or see the individual or females in particular movement in the surrounding houses will create discomfort. The masjid authority should look into the matter immediately. This will ease the tension and make the other community feel safe. Intention of fixing the camera is acceptable, but not the discomfort of the private individual living nearby.

In this whole episode it clearly indicates that it is not at all a issue of two communities or religions but only EGO between these two...

I don't think if somebody forcefully built a Masjid n pray to Almighty,he will be happy with them.ISLAM clearly directs its followers to respect all other religion & not to degrade anything of others. So how come in this place they could not find a permanent solution through mutual understanding n give n take policy??? Definitely it is possible without harming each other.

Today cctv issue, tomorrow another one,it will move on & on until unless find a permanent solution through dialogue n live with peace n harmony.

Cctv is not for God but for humans .....God doesnt pray inside masjid nor reside inside any place of worship so protection for him doesnt come into picture......Masjid is a place of worship...Masjid is not built by God but by humans if he builds it whats wrong in protecting it.. ..Every place in this earth is masjid for a believer....
    ...I remind you a hadith..
A man came near messenger of Allah and asked
“O Messenger of Allah, should I tie my camel and trust in Allah, or should I untie her and trust in Allah?” The Messenger of Allah, replied, “Tie her and trust in Allah.”...
There is another verse in Quran meaning...."God will not change your condition unless you change it yourself"...If somebody is sitting lame and prays God provide me food,God protect my house,God protect masjid...I hope other than miracle Nothing will happen or come to rescue to save him ....when he does something he need to trust God in his work rather than waiting for someone...
