Dalits cannot enter hotels in law minister's native village

Tumakuru, May 4 (DHNS): While the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the State keeps chanting social justice and equality mantra, untouchability is still a way of life in Law and Parliamentary Minister T B Jayachandra’s native village.

Dalits are not allowed to enter into the hotels at Timmanahalli under Kandikere hobli of Chikkanayakanahalli taluk. The incident came to light on Saturday when an under graduate student belonging to dalit community went to buy snacks was made to sit outside.

After learning of incident, Kannada lecturer Murthy Timmanahalli, joined by a few dalit leaders, lodged a complaint with CN Halli police in this regard.

“Initially, the police didn’t entertain the complaint. After we brought this to the notice of Additional SP, the station in-charge accepted the complaint,” said Kotta Shankar, a lecturer and a resident of Timmanahalli.

The CN Halli police told the hotel owners to allow members belonging to dalit community enter the hotel and remove separate seating arrangements made for the dalits.

The complainants withdrew their complaint after the hotel owners assured them that they would do away with the age- old practice.

“Untouchability in one form or the other is still prevalent here (Timmenahalli). A few saloons in the village refuse to give a haircut to dalits. Also, dalits are denied entry into the temples in the village,” Murthy Timmanahalli complained.

He urged the authorities concerned to take steps to eradicate the practice of untouchability.

Circle Police Inspector Jayakumar told Deccan Herald: “There is no need to hold a peace meeting. The hotel owners have assured that they would remove separate seating arrangement for dalits. We will create awareness about the social evil among the public during the monthly meetings.

“The incidents of saloons refusing haircut to dalits have not come to our notice,” he said.

But how many of us are ready to entertain SC or ST in social gatherings or personal parties. May be one in a Million (upper class people) would accept to mingle freely with them.

    Flavian.

Have you noticed one thing in Kuwait, I am not talking about how Arabs treat with Bengali and even hindi as compared to Americans or Europeans.

I am telling about Goan Roman Catholic and Mangalorean Catholics. Have you observed it. I observed it in one of the wedding party I attended but it is a minor issue.

I hope soon Hindus will get rid of this useless caste system.

I still wonder how the Varna system or division of labour turned into a caste system?.Varna system is accepted by all nation.
We Hindus have given all the possible support to lower caste people like reservation, promotion in job quota and even the constitution is written by lower cast. Our PM Modi too is not from upper caste.
At least we don't kill each other in the name of caste like others do in Northern Ireland where a Catholic can't enter into a protestant dominated place. Shia and sunni conflict is worst in current scenario.
Still we Hindus should defeat this false practice.

Why govt. cannot eradicate caste system by law...?

Stop granting facilities based on one's religion, and be sensible and sensitive to the needy without asking their religion.

Indians like to have caste system for vote bank politics since independence.

Put notice boards at Hindu temples, with hotline numbers to report against untouchability etc.

    Jossey

After conversion atleast give decent names to them like Jossey Saldhana, Lobo, D souza, Fernandes etc. Why pefix some words like jojo, mojo, jiji, viji, and suffix it with the hindu second name or, or Something Prabhu just to make them realize their place in your so called "Casteless society" ! Or is it a attempt to just change their religion, but keep them affiliated with the same caste so as to enjoy caste based benefits form the Govt ?? . Why do we have prayers centers for some & Chrurch's for others ? Don't just convert to increase the numbers. Integrate them within and make them one of you.Build relationships, give one of your children in marriage, get one of theirs. We will be happy then and accept that you don't have caste system, or atleast I will.

This is one of the main reasons for conversion..When Dalit people don't get respect or when their self respect or dignity is hurt for no reason, naturally they go to the place where their EMOTIONS are respected. So,we can see mass conversion from Dalit to Christianity or Buddhism in some places..I don't see any wrong doing if that dalit boy (who was denied entry into hotel) accepts Christianity..Once he gets converted, then same boy can enter same hotel and order MASALA DOSA !!

ABHAYANKAR..THIS IS FACT..Whether it is cheap or costly..I don't know..but this is fact..If you respect them ,they will never go for conversion..No one wants to lose his/her dignity and respect and live in fear..If other communities are giving them minimum comfort, definitely they accept conversion..What happens to them after conversion,it depends on their luck..some are really satisfied and happy..some are not..but definitely better than original stage.

christian black american still face racism attacts..WHY?
poor shia's muslim men are beheaded, shia women are brutally raped and kept as sex slaves, kids murdered brutally. WHY?????
    WHY????????
jews and muslims and chirstians are fighting for centuries killing people, destroying worship places etc etc just to prove that his religion is the best!
    WHY?????

What you have mentioned above is 100% correct and is going on, but it is inhuman and not acceptable. Instead of agreeing to the fact that this inhuman caste system is officially recognized and accepted by Hinduism and our successive Congress and BJP governments, you are just beating around the bush and equating those incidents with caste system.
