Udupi: (First) Shaadi Ke Side Effects! Amid high drama, wife stops man's wedding

Silvester D’Souza
Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (RJP)

Udupi, May 14: This may well have been story of a television serial or a Bollywood movie, only, it actually happened in real life. Wedding does not take place as planned as the bridegroom is taken away by police because he is married. His real wife is a complainant who arrives with police to stop the wedding. Bride feels let down, but the groom's relative comes to her rescue in the form of new hope in her life. He agrees to marry her. And eight hundred invitees witness these incidents.

It all happened at Rajalaxmi wedding hall in Manur near Kota where Shankar Nayiri from Murukai Kota and Veena from Kirimanjeshwara were about to enter wedlock. But the wedding did not take place as planned due to the arrival of a complainant and the police right on time.

Devendra and Veena (newly-wed)

Shankar and Saraswati (old photo)

The complainant was Saraswati from Bengaluru. Saraswati who came accompanied with her mother, aunt and Aravalli police, claimed that Shankar was her husband. Shankar was hesitant to admit the fact first. Saraswati then showed the photos of their wedding.
Shankar was immediately taken to the local police station where he admitted that he had married Saraswati a year back.

Meanwhile, the bride Veena suffered a shock by the sudden turn of events. She comes from a poor family and worked in a fair price shop, and had availed loan for her marriage.

When everyone in the wedding hall was perplexed about the sad developments, Devendra came to the rescue of Veena and offered to marry her at the same time fixed as in the invitation. The grateful bride and her family gave their consent, and the nuptials took place between Veena and Devendra in the presence of the guests. Devendra is incidentally a relative of Shankar.

Meantime Saraswati narrated her story in the police station in front of Radhadas Kundapur, the president of taluk women's federation. She said that Shankar was in Bengaluru five years ago on some work. A missed call by Shankar by mistake to Saraswati ended up in their meeting. The meeting made them fall in love with each other. The affair went on for four years, and culminated in wedding at Bolar Muneshwara temple in Bengaluru. Saraswati who was working in a garments shop, recently left her job. Shankar who was working in Manipal press used to travel to Bengaluru now and then.

When there was no news from Shankar for a whole week, an anxious Saraswati called Shankar's colleague, and it was then that she learnt about his second marriage. Wasting no time, Saraswati approached the Aravalli police station and lodged a complaint. Then she visited the right place at the right time, with the right people.

Meanwhile, all is well with the newly-wedded couple. Veena and Devendra will visit Kollur temple on Friday May 15 to seek the blessing of the Goddess. Also, the marriage rituals of Shankar and his wife Saraswati will be performed again in the presence of family members at the temple, family sources said.

They are invitees for the wedding. Whats wrong in having food. Is it really necessary that one must have envelop or give presents for wedding. Positive comments helps to build the society. Your comments are strange.

    Congratulations Devendra & Veena

First of all Congratulations to Devendra & Veena. Hats off to Devendra.

It's a good lesson to most of the sections of the Indian society where they don't have the practice of checking the background of the bride or bridegroom or seeking NO OBJECTION.
As rightly said by Pramod Suvarna -Derebail in chrisrians there is a compulsory procedure in the church to read out the details of boy/girl getting married 3 week's sunday masses before the wedding and seeking NO OBJECTION from general public.ONLY VALID REASONS like any records of their previous marriages will be entertained with PROOF. Also if the nuptials is to happen other than the Parish of boy/girl they need to produce a Letter from Parish Priest as CLEARANCE, and same kind of letter is required if the boy/girl were residing outstation for the last 6 months from the wedding date. With this the identity of the bride/bridegroom will be clear to the priest and people.

I urge the SO CALLED MORAL POLICING units like BD,RSS,Ramasene, HJV or many don't just harp on Love Jihad, Ghar Vapsi ets . Please fine tune the customs and procedures in your religion and practices ans save your society specially innocent MY SISTERS from the THUGS and CHEATERS living in your own community.

    GOD BLESS DEVENDRA & VEENA.

It's not the right time to do 'mockery' of the situation.
After all it's now become scar mark on gal within her own people.
All gals look forward for a good time of marriage with a hope to have a good partner.
Gal from a poor family cannot take her own decision depending on others.
Feeling of gal erupts when her fellow mates get married early.
For sake of family members and not give much burden she start to go for work of her capacity.
    God Bless a new couple.
Let not shankar take a U-Turn in near future.

Culprit itself is none other than a 'missed call'.
That's the reason in good olden days marriage fix to the person knowing from the same locality or related far within itself from the family.
Good gesture from Devendra indeed appreciable.

    Moral:
Till the last minute -you will not know who your spouse will be!!
This in spite of printing your wedding card and booking the marriage hall!!!
Life is so full of twists....
I write this because I thought at least 162 times that this 'Girl's' going to be my spouse ...Na Na
    After another 162 times...
the 325 th one became my partner!!!
    Life's like that!!!
Now listen..My wife tells me often
that all the 324 ones before her were lucky!!!

It happens only in India! Till such time as 'temple marriages' are accepted by society then the occurrences of multiple marriages will continue!! Also, what is the legal status of the woman who has only undergone a temple marriage with regards to rights, inheritance etc. is anybody's guess!!

From the jewelry adorned by the couple, they do not look to be from a 'poor' family, just an observation!!

Funny, recently somewhere in Bihar a marriage was cancelled on the spot when the bride found out that the bridegroom could not count currency notes properly!!

Not'Count' currency notes properly?Well that's no big deal...
There are cases of not being able to 'Mount' a horse properly for starters and weddings getting cancelled...
Nowadays brides to be get the 'hint' very quickly...

Reason behind when you see more of 'horses' in life time.
Now-a-days it's even difficult to find out by anybody.
More of people riding horses as per there wish.
    Effect of new technology.

I appreciate the bold step and decision taken by Mr.Devendra to get married with Veena,a poor girl who was shocked and in dilemma for a while on the same day,at the same spot and at the same time.Really laudable act to sacrifice his life to Veena.Hope their bond, conjugal life should continue, flourish and prosper throughout their wedded life.Pray to God and bless them happy married life. This is the lesson for others, who want to cheat others and put poor girls life in well of tears.

System of giving envelopes is now outdated.
Difficult to keep track of person after long years.
For marriage even person from poor family take loan and repay it latter.
Everybody needs marriage of there children look grandeur.

Saraswati and Veena now become good old friends to keep watch on there respective husbands.

Anyhow what's happen in the right time as per wish from the god.
Should not publicize such events in social site. It's after all a matter of a family taking advantage by others with publicity.

Govt. should bring strict law of mandatory court marriage before the religious marriage takes place, to avoid this kind of duplicate marriages. This rule is already exists in Goa state since long time, same rule should be implemented in all the states of India. Hope all the state Govt will think about this.
