Bengaluru: Exam paper revalued - Failed student gets 90 additional marks!

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 15: Due to a blunder committed by a teacher who had conducted valuation work of the answer sheets of a student, a girl student who secured 98 marks in Kannada was marked as having scored just 8. Her result showed that she had failed in SSLC examination.

Ruchita K R, a student of Sharadamba High School in Ashok Nagar Tumakuru was shocked when her result was announced. Although she had got 87.7 percent marks overall, she had failed in Kannada! Shocked over this turn of event, her father, Ramakrishnaiah, who also happens to be a teacher, went to Karnataka Secondary School Education Examination Board for applying for revaluation.

When he approached director of the board, Yashoda Bopanna, she checked the answer sheet, and found that Ruchita had actually scored 98 in Kannada, and thus passed with distinction. The board, which has since modified the student's result, has decided to issue notice to the teacher who valued the answer sheet and copied marks onto the OMR sheet, and impose fine, as there is provision to do so if there is a difference of marks of over six.

She said as the SSLC answer sheet valuation work happened to be a huge exercise involving about 8.5 lac students, there are bound to be mistakes. She has requested the students concerned and their parents not to get panicky, and instead, submit relevant applications to the board and get clarifications when in doubt.

Teachers valuating the answer sheets of students should be extremely careful and should think about themselves in the students places or of their children!. After all its the most important phase of the students academic life!

Same thing happened in my case during my 10std result. Ours is a well reputed school in Mangalore. 7 students with name stating with V were withheld. And then after 2 weeks results were out where i got 80 %. Somehow managed to get into college that i desired, but few out of 7 couldn't due to this blunder, in spite of all 7 getting good marks..

    Congrats Ruchita
In Ruchita's case she was lucky since her father was a teacher and recognised her talent but if there was a student from a poor illiterate family what would have been her status at this juncture!

Unless there is a provision to re correct the answer papers in front of the superintendent and the student there is no point in fines. The fine will deter mistakes but not stop mistakes totally. If recorrection is not done in front of student it will ensure that the recorrecting person will not give more marks than 6. Also a deposit should be kept by student for recorrection. If marks remain unchanged or end up lesser student should forfeit deposit.

are you dumb to make even such a senseless comment..? of all the subjects, one can get 8 marks in KANNADA, a langauage subjects..? even if you go and write, your name and a couple of stories as "prabandha" one should get a double digit atleast!... nikk marl unda maaraya... how can a girl who scores 87% in rest of the subject , fail in Kannada, being a kannadiga? is it such a tough subject!...I would have agreed if it was Sanskrit, french, german, chinese, or even HINDI one gets such low marks!.. and she is a hindu school teacher's daughter, and I know how well they study and force their kids to study and would not need to resort to such tactics to clear a subject!vhe vhe vhe

In life also sometimes you revalue the time , partner you have lost.
Then you find that they were priceless and by then it might be too late.
Written exams however give you a second chance. Many a times life doesn't!! So value somebody dear to your heart and never lose them on any silly pretext...
