Ranthambore, May 17: Named as T-24 aka Ustaad a tiger which is said to have killed five people including a guard earlier this month, has been sedated and shifted to Sajjangarh Biological park without informing most of the authorities concerned.
Nine year old, Ustaad was asleep for the entire 11 hour journey from Ranthambore to Udaipur. A dozen officials and doctors also undertook the journey to ensure the safe arrival of the tiger at the biological park. The most shocking titbit of all is that the State Forest Minister and the Sajjangarh officials too had not been sufficiently furnished with details of the move prior to the actual journey and subsequent arrival.
Activists who had been rooting for the tiger were incensed at not being informed of the move by the Ranthambore National Park authorities. They also were not entirely convinced that it was the tiger that was responsible for the death of the guard, Rampal Mali. The probe panel in this case was yet to come to a verdict on the matter.
The activists claim that the resident hoteliers lobbed for the shifting of the tiger as the news of a man-killing tiger could be harmful to business for them. The animal had thus far been allowed to roam free in close to 30-40 sq kms territory, but will now, be confined to an enclosure that will measure a meagre half a hectare. These conditions are said to be not in keeping with the regulations of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, claimed Rajasthan's former principal Chief Conservator of Forests, R N Mehrotra.
