New Delhi, Jun 15 (HT) : Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s team of lawyers who argued his case against the UPA government’s 2011 order revoking his passport in the Delhi high court included Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Bansuri Swaraj.

Bansuri earlier worked in the office of senior advocate UU Lalit before he got elevated to the bench as a Supreme Court judge in July 2014. Later, she started her independent office. She was one of the ten lawyers assisting senior advocate Parag Tripathi who led the arguments for Modi.

A two-judge HC bench headed by Justice BD Ahmed had on August 27, 2014, restored Modi’s passport that was revoked by regional passport office in Mumbai on March 3, 2011. The passport office — under the ministry of external affairs (MEA) — never moved the SC against the order.

Banned by the Indian cricket board, Modi’s passport was cancelled as he failed to appear personally before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that has accused him of violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in connection with the IPL. Modi sent a detailed response but declined to appear citing security reasons.
