Heavy rainfall in Karnataka

Bengaluru, June 23 (IANS): Many places in Karnataka received heavy rainfall and the southwest monsoon has spread vigourously across the state, official said on Tuesday.

Extremely heavy rainfall occurred at many places in coastal Karnataka.

The torrential downpour in Malnad region over the last three days has raised water levels in dams and reservoirs and rivers swelled in the state, according to the water resources department.

The weatherman has forecast rain and thundershowers at most places in coastal and southern parts of the state and at a few places in northern Karnataka.

The Met Office has warned the fishermen not to venture out into the sea.

The weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain in Bengaluru. Strong, gusty surface winds are likely to occur, the official said.

The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 29 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 20 degrees Celsius, officials added.

On Monday, Bengaluru recorded the maximum temperature of 28.7 degrees Celsius matching the season's average, while the minimum temperature was a notch higher at 20.5 degrees Celsius.
