Five Star Friends organize tennis ball cricket tournament

Udupi, Jun 23: Five Star Friends Udyavar organized Udupi diocese level tennis ball cricket tournament on June 14 and June 21 at Udyavara Panchayat Ground.








































The tournament was inaugurated by Wilfred D’souza, president of Sauhardha Samithi, Udyavara on June 14. A total of 12 teams participated on the first day of the tournament.

On June 21 a total of 12 teams participated. In the first semi final, SMS Brahmavar team defeated Moodubelle team and entered the finals. Vamanjoor team defeated Kuntalnagar team in the second semi final and entered the finals.

In the finals Vamanjoor team won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 44 runs with 4 loss of wickets in 5 overs whereas SMS Brahmavar scored 37 runs losing 6 wickets in 5 overs.The winning team took home a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a 5 star trophy and runner’s up team backed Rs 5000 and a 5 star trophy. 20 teams participated from the Udupi diocese, 2 guest teams from Mangaluru diocese namely 1 from Syrian Catholic team and 1 from Protestant team. Man of the match was Pramith Veigas , Vamanjoor. best bolwer was Lesly Dcunha , Vamanjoor. Best batsman Avith Mascarenhas , Vamanjoor. Man of the series was Joy, Bramhavar.

Closing ceremony was headed by Wilson D’souza, Udupi district Jaya Karnataka youth wing president. Addressing the gathering he said, “Youth are the life of the nation. Youth should work together for the betterment of the society.” He also said that youth should join the groups like Jaya Karnataka and should indulge in social work. He congratulated five star friends and also the winners of the tournament.

Sathish G Malpe famous tennis ball cricket player, Sayad Gurukamba, Mangaluru popular commentators in hindi, Glanish and Glancia Pinto shuttle badminton players were felicitated on this occasion.

Fr Naveen Sequeira assistant parish priest, St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar, Michael D’souza and Riyaz Palli, Jithendra Shetty, Nishanth Karkada, Mithesh Kumar and Alwyn Lewis were present. Suresh Shetty Gurme visited the event on June 21.

20 teams from the Udupi diocese, 2 guest teams Vamajoor and Penmannur from Mangaluru diocese, one Syrian Catholic team and one Protestant team participated.

Steevan Colaco welcomed the gathering, Anil D’souza extended the vote of thanks. Vinay Udyavar compered the event.
