Udupi, Jun 23: Plans are afoot to renovate/reconstruct Hosa Marigudi at Kaup, which happens to be one of the most sought after places of worship in Tulunadu, at a cost of Rs 25 crore. Foundation stone for the project will be laid on Wednesday June 24 by state urban development minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake. Palimar Math head, Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji, will grace the occasion, while Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP, Shobha Karandlaje, will be the chief guest.

This information was provided by minister, Sorake, and president of renovation committee, K Vasudeva Shetty, at a joint press conference convened at Hosa Marigudi at Kaup on Monday June 22.

It has been decided to provide a touch of uniqueness and beauty to the structure of Marigudi with the support of devotees. At the same time, ancient architectural principles governing building of temples and established traditions will not be compromised with. Modern techniques be employed along with established traditions, they said.

Vasudeva Shetty said that the design of the main sanctum sancotrum will be designed after Vijayanagara style of sculpture, while main door, pole, and cages will be in Chalukya dynasty style. The tower of the sanctum sanctorum will be designed after Chola style with unique designs. 'It has been decided to build the entire temple complex by using laterite stones, which are considered to be auspicious and dear to the divine powers, with the aim of making the structure look like ancient temples. The pillars of Chandrashale will be in Kadamba style, while nine towers will be in Chola style,' he explained.

In the construction of this place of workshop, guidance will be provided by Shashidhar Keshavacharya, well-known architect, in association with Rajasekhar Hebbar. Daivik Associates Jayanagara Bengaluru has prepared the blue print of the renovation work, and the renovation will be based on Dravidian style of Indian architecture in its entirety, Shetty disclosed. 'The renovation work will take place in three phases, with the support of the general public, government, and managing committee of the temple. In the first phase, Mariamma and Uchchangi shrines, portico, inner and outer compound walls etc, will be built at a cost of ten crore rupees. In the second phase, administrative office, office of the managing committee, hall for community feast, restrooms for Tantries, priests and Darshan Patri, guest house, museum, hi-tech rest rooms complex, stock room, and spacious vehicles parking lot will come up. This will require about ten crore rupees. In the remaining five crore rupees, a hall with a seating capacity of 1,200, dining hall with a capacity of 800, and shopping complex will be constructed,' he said.

Shetty disclosed that a decision to pool funds required for the proposed works from the general public, devotees, different departments, and the government has been taken, and there has been pledge of wholehearted support for the work from all quarters.

President of the managing comittee, Ramesh Hegde Kalya, honorary adviser and former MLA, Lalaji R Mendon, vice president of Hosa Marigudi development committee, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, Madhav R Palan, Gangadhar Suvarna, committee vice president and convener of finance committee, Manohar S Shetty, convener of publicity committee, Dr Deviprasad Shetty Belapu, Nadikere Ratnakar Shetty, Anil Ballal Kaup Beedu, Raghavendra Tantry Korangrapady, and several other persons and members of managing committee were present at the press conference.
