Bantwal, Jun 24: A team led by Vittal station house officer, Prakash Devadiga, nabbed two inter-state vehicle thieves from Vittal Junction on Tuesday June 23 morning. The arrested persons are Abdul Nassir alias Cheranguli Nassir (20) from Uppala Nayabazaar, and Ibrahim Mujambil (19) from Bayarupadavu Paivalike in Kerala.

The two were travelling towards Vittal from the direction of Kanyaya. The police personnel, who had advance knowledge of their movement, waited for them at Vittal Junction where four roads meet, and took them into custody after they reached the spot. The motor bike they were using was seized.

During their questioning, the police learnt that they were involved with theft of cash from the house of Nagappa Naik in Anepadavu, Bairikatte on June 16, as well as robbery by spraying of pepper powder at Padibagilu. The accused admitted that they had stolen a motor bike that had been parked in front of KMC Hospital in Mangaluru. The two face one case in Ullal station, one in Kumble, and six in Manjeshwar, it is learnt.

Nassir had been jailed in a theft case sometime back, and was released after the term of his sentence. Although Mujambil has been arrested for the first time, his father, Abdul Rahiman alias Disk Monu, is an accused in a number of cases, policemen said.

The raid was conducted under the guidance of district superintendent of police, Sharanappa, and additional superintendent of police, Vincent Shantakumar, by Bantwal assistant superintendent of police, Rahul Kumar, circle inspector, Belliappa, Vittal station house officer, Prakash Devadiga, district crime intelligence bureau, and local policemen.
