Thieves enter home, take away cell phones, cash

Mangaluru, Jun 25: Dhruvakumar Shettigar, living near the railway gate at Kallapu in Bellairu village within Padupanambur gram panchayat in the taluk found to his dismay on Wednesday June 24 morning that thieves had entered his home and taken away cash and cell phones. In a police complaint, Shettigar said he had lost three cellphones and Rs 34,000 placed inside a purse.

The thieves had gained entry into this house by breaking open the window of the kitchen. It is reported that Dhruvakumar's wife, Jyoti, had borrowed Rs 50,000 from a self help group, and had kept the balance money in her purse after spending Rs 25,000 for works relating to repairs and maintenance of the house.

Dhruvakumar's mother, Meenakshi Shettigar, also lives in the house. On Tuesday, two relatives had come on a visit. Both the cell phones of these relatives have been taken away by the thieves, it is gathered. The thieves, before leaving, were found to have removed sims inside the cellphones, and tossed them into the house before escaping.

Mulky police visited the spot and conducted inspection. Former president of Padupanambur gram panchayat, Vinod Salian Bellairu, requested Mulky station sub-inspector, Parameshwar, to increase police beat in the area particularly during the rainy season.

A case stands registered in Mulky police station. Investigation has begun.
