Moodbidri: Illegal stone quarry raided - miner fined

Moodbidri, Jun 25: Officials from the office of the mines and geology at Mangaluru raided a spot at Mantrady within Nellikar gram panchayat here on Tuesday June 23. The mine is located within the reserve forest area. The miner was imposed with a penalty of one lac rupees by the officials.

The officials also confiscated certain items found in a truck that was found parked on the spot, besides collecting Rs 8,000 as fine. The officials also asked Kundapur subdivision of forest department to take legal action against the concerned for conducting mining activity within reserve forest area.

The miner in question, Ashok Kumar, had been fined one lac rupees by the officials of the department in 2014, after finding him conducting mining operations illegally in 2014. This time, after realizing that he has resumed this illegal activity, the department has fined him to the tune of one lac rupees again.
