Belthangady, Jul 1: In an apparent attempt to flare up communal passions, some miscreants purposefully disposed off beef and other waste materials near a Nagabana at Kukkavu within the limits of Malavantige gram panchayat in the taluk on the night of Monday June 29.

Locals said that a gang of mischief mongers who arrived at the spot in a pick-up truck, sped away after throwing beef, severed head of a cow etc at around 8 pm that day.

After information was conveyed to them, policemen from the town station reached the spot and took away the items found on the spot. A huge crowd had gathered at the spot as the news spread like wildfire. However, the police personnel used due care and diligence to ensure that no untoward incidents take place.

A case stands registered in the local police station. Investigation is progressing.
