Udupi, Jul 3: Advocate from Chikkamagaluru, Shobha C V, took over charge as the new president of the district consumer grievances redressal forum (court) here, on Wednesday July 1.

Sharadamma from the town also took over as new woman member of the forum. T C Rajashekhar has already been functioning as a member of the forum.

Shobha, who started working as lawyer since 1995, worked as counsellor at the mediation centre at Chikkamagaluru after having been appointed to the post by the high court. She also used to extend legal services free of cost.

The local forum was sans any permanent president since the last two years, and Asha Shetty, president of Dakshina Kannada consumers court, used to visit here once a week to conduct sittings for disposal of pending cases. Over 100 cases are awaiting disposal here at present.

With the appointment of full time president and member, the district forum is expected to regain its past glory and become a leading forum in the state again.
