Bengaluru,Jul 6 (DHNS): The Department of State Education Research and Training (DSERT) will conduct “Shaikshanika Adalat” for teachers across the State from August 1 to address issues related to academics.

The initiative comes in the wake of problems expressed by teachers with regard to the Nali-Kali textbooks in government schools, for classes 1 to 3. “Apart from addressing teachers' concerns pertaining to various aspects of academics, through this, we hope to strengthen our support to teachers to implement Nali Kali programme as well,” S Jayakumar, Director, DSERT, told Deccan Herald. The programme, already conducted on a pilot basis in Gadag and Tumakuru, will be extended to all districts and taluks in the State, he said.

In a circular in November 2014, ahead of commencement of the pilot programme, the director has deemed the Shaikshanika Adalat as an important intervention for effective implementation of new methods of classroom teaching. In the light of new textbooks, new concepts introduced in the curriculum and new methods of teaching, training has been given to teachers. While some teachers have been able to adopt the new methods of teaching, several have difficulties in coping with it.

The whole point of having introduced new methods of teaching to improve the quality of education would be nullified if it was not implemented effectively.

Through this platform, teachers will be able to discuss academic and co-curricular related issues as well. Resource persons will be deputed to address the problems, the circular stated.

As of now, the department is planning to hold the adalat every three months. The DSERT officials along with district-level officials will take part in the adalat, the director said.
