Mangaluru, Jul 6: In a tragic accident involving a Kerala state transport bus and a scooter at Kolya on Sunday night, July 5, Kolya resident Shivaprasad Naik (44) has lost his life.

Shivaprasad was on his way to his quarters in Bendoorwell, Mangaluru from the house of his mother at Kolya when a Kerala transport bus heading to Kasargod from Mangaluru hit his scooter. Shivaprasad was employed in the Mangaluru Corporation water supply department and was returning from the house of his mother as usual by his Kinetic Honda scooter.

Shivaprasad, who was coming home everyday, was usually leaving his scooter at Mangaluru and travel back by bus. However yesterday, July 5 being Sunday, there were no buses and he had to travel back in his scooter.

When he was trying to cross the national highway from his house behind Kolya Sharada Katte, the Kerala Transport bus has ran over him and pulled him for half a kilometer. The local people had to struggle for half an hour to remove his body stuck under the bus. He had died by then.

The people who expressed anguish at the speeding buses on National Highways have shattered the bus glass by hurling stones. The bus driver and conductor fled from the scene.

The deceased has left behind his wife and mother. A police case is registered at Ullal Police station.
