Bengaluru, Jul 7: A Mysuru-based entrepreneur, who uploaded and shared video footage of an incident relating to murder which occurred in a garments factory in Sri Lanka, by falsely claiming in his status that it was shot at Garuda Mall here, stands arrested. He has been put up in Parappana Agrahara jail.

Pradeep Kulkarni (35) from Mysuru has been arrested on the basis of a defamation complaint filed by the management of Garuda Mall at Ashok Nagar here, and brought to the city. The policemen said that Kulkarni was remanded to judicial custody on being produced in court.

A youth who had killed a girl in a garments factory in Sri Lanka by hacking her, had later killed himself by using a knife. This gruesome scene had been uploaded by Pradeep through his Facebook account on June 29. In the status, he had claimed this incident to have happened in Garuda Mall, and shared it to over 800 people. People who watched the video had turned panicky, the police said.

Sandeep Patil, deputy police commissioner of central division here said that the police will continue to act firmly against those who try to spread apprehension among the general public by spreading false information through social websites.
