Belagavi, Jul 7: The Siddaramaiah government had to face acute embarrassment when the Opposition BJP members launched a scathing attack on State’s Textiles Minister BaburaoChinchansuru over the Rs 12 crore cheque bounce episode and demanded the minister’s resignation.

Opposition BJP leader in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar, who raised the issue in the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, said the minister had no moral right to continue in office after the complaint from a woman on cheating and fraud by issuing a cheque that bounced.

Shettar wanted a debate the issue under an adjournment motion on the issue and alleged that a case has been filed against the Minister.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should sack Chinchansur from the Cabinet immediately, he demanded.

Shettar said the woman has alleged in the letter to the Speaker claimed that the Minister had borrowed Rs. 11.88 crore from her and the cheque he had issued in return had bounced.

Chinchansur, who is in public life, has given the cheque which has bounced.

A complaint on this has been filed at the Magistrate Court which has taken cognisance of the case, Shettar said.

Objecting to Shettar’s sweeping remarks, State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra questioned how this issue can be discussed under adjournment motion.

"I request the chair not to allow this adjournment motion," he said.

A couple of members (Congress) questioned Shettar’s intention behind bringing private matter to the House.

Shettar contended that Chinchansuris “not fit” to be Minister and requested the Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa to allow issue to be discussed.
