Upgrading of B'luru-Mysuru-Bantwal NH; Rs 1100 cr for land acquisition from Centre

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Belagavi

Belagavi, Jul 10: Here’s some good news for the people of coastal Karnataka, especially those from the coastal city of Mangaluru and the temple town of Udupi as well as people of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, who frequently travel to Karnataka’s capital of Bengaluru and back as well as those going to the State’s cultural capital of Mysuru.

The Bengaluru-Mysuru-Bantwal national highway is set to be upgraded from two lanes to six lanes to ensure smooth movement of traffic.

Even the Siddaramaiah regime will be happy to know that the Narendra Modi government will be sanctioning Rs 1100 crore to cover the land acquisition costs.

This information was given by Karnataka’s Public Works Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa in his reply to the demands for grants pertaining to his department in the State Legislative Assembly in Belagavi’s Suvarna Soudha on Friday.

In his reply to four-hour-long debate on PWD’s demands, he said the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways has agreed to grant Rs 1100 crore for acquisition of lands for developing the national highway from two lanes to six lanes from Bengaluru to Bantwal via Mysuru.

Dr Mahadevappa said many humps on Bengaluru-Mysuru road have already been removed to ensure speedy movement of vehicles between two cities.

An action plan has been prepared to develop 3670 km roads in the State into four lanes and already 361 km had been upgraded, he said.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 5,000 crore for development of national highways in the State during the last two years.

13 kms of Shiradi Ghat works completion by July end

Yet another major link road from Bengaluru to Mangaluru, the movement of traffic which had been hampered due to the long delay in the completion of the Shiradi Ghat stretch of concrete work is also progressing fast and work on 13 kms stretch of the Shiradi Ghat (concrete road) would be completed by this month end, he said.

The minister said the 13 kms stretch of concreting work on Shiradi Ghat would be opened to movement of vehicles either this month end or early next month.

Concrete laying works for another 13 kms and asphalting of 21 kms would be taken up after the end of the monsoon rains.

The Charmadi Ghat would be widened after completion of the Shiradi Ghat work, he said.

Inspection Bungalows to be improved

Basic facilities would be provided at Inspection Bungalows in districts before end of this financial year.

He appealed to legislators to use IBs for official purposes.

Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa asked the Minister to prepare estimates correctly while taking up road works to ensure their quality.

Members cutting across party-lines demanded construction of by-pass roads along the national and state highways to ensure smooth movement of traffic.

The legislators demanded stern action against “fake” contractors as they were not only looting the exchequer but also causing hardships to the public.

Dr Mahadevappa said there were 25,000 contractors in the State. The PWD had introduced online renewal of licenses for contractors.

Wonder why Mangluru-BC Road was not made a six lane one too at one go, they will have to do it sometime in the future for sure!!

The BC Road-Bangalore project will involve acquiring lots of commercial property on which those families earn their bread and butter, no doubt they will never be satisfied with however much compensation the Govt. offers and will fight tooth and nail for out-of-the world compensation which may not be feasible for the Govt. to dole out, and this will be the biggest hurdle in the project!! Jai Hind!!

    Appreciated.
But what about Bantwal or BC Road to Dharmasthal Road, when they are going to widen this road. Lot of Commuters are travelling from Mangalore to Dharmasthala, but still no progress. I think Dr. Veerendra Heggade has to take some special attention to this issue, then only this Road can improve.

    Appreciated.
Anything that is good for the people and the Country should always be appreciated, irrespective of political affiliations.
Ultimately all stake holders and life of common man should improve.
Waste of precious time, pollution, dependency on imported crude oil and its cost should always be minimized in phased manner. Genuine efforts must be made to remove all sorts of hurdles coming on the way of genuine progress.
China has set an example in this regard.

Very strange to see people welcoming those who had opposed the Land acquisition bill of Modi Govt .Friends please note this entire money is only for Land acquisition and if amendment is not done like Consent clause and Social impact assessment is put then this project cannot be implemented in time and the entire money will go back

Mangalore airport exit road was closed only for six months, if we compare to that, who ever crossed forty years of age may be not able to see the completion of this project.

    People,

Best thing to complete this project without corruption is... give this project to non-Indian companies...and see the results...

Quality of the work will be excellent...Project will be completed on time...absolutely no corruption...only politicians will be poorer(don't get any kickback)...

For competitive pricing..I would suggest Korean or Chinese companies...

Beg to differ! Our Indian companies have accomplished much more than you can imagine! when Natinal quadrilateral was built or pune-Mumbai expressway or even worli sealink by ajith gulab chand or L&T, we are much more efficient in surface transport infra!... even the Konkan railways is best example- what we need is able leadership at center!Gadkari, developed a lot of contactors, equipped them to import technology and machinery and gave them confidence that they can do it!.. now with program management, Project management MBA holders in constructions, IT enabled and experts who have worked in aborad are available, we are getting there! No need, to let foreign exchange go away on silly projects. Indians are fast learners. Yes, Koreans and japanese are good, in their own way, and certainly, better if there are many "tunneling" work is involved, like J&K roads or north east!...

secondly, see padubidiri karkala- Manipal kind of roads, whcih were sanctioned when BJP was ruling in karnataka... they have been so fast in construction, its so good.. I forgot the name of the IAS officers involved, they made the whole process transparent.. every week there was monitoring online as to how much work is completed, why it is stuck, expected time of cpmplettion..

Problem, is when congress rules, contractors, are pampered- "helorilla kelorilla" - dispute, delay, procastrination, corruption, "I care two hoots, cos I am secular attitude mainitaing secular fabric!"! vhe vhe vhe

gadkari will do well- come to india and see for yourself, in a year!

Who planted this ? Modi/Doval or CIA?? Why, because Gadkari is honest???
