Kundapur, Jul 11: The police personnel, who came across a vehicle that was transporting cows illegally, took into custody three offenders, a transport vehicle and four cows on Friday July 10.

The incident occurred near Mirinda Estate in Machchattu village within the limits of Amasebail police station. One of the accused however, succeeded in fleeing.

The identities of the arrested persons have been given as Basava Kulal, Chikka Marakala, and Shekhar Shetty from Amasebail. All of them were produced in the court. However, Antayya Shetty from Heggeri in Siddapur village, who is said to be the leader of the gang, was able to escape.

The police personnel of Amasebail station were on patrol duty near Machchattu when they stopped a Mahindra goods auto rickshaw, and found that cows were being illegally transported in that vehicle. During the questioning, the arrested people revealed that these cows had been bought from people from Machchattu and Ulloor villages, and that the cows were being taken to the slaughterhouse at Mangaluru.

Assistant sub-inspector of police, Ramesh Pawar, head constable, Ramachandra, and other personnel were involved with this operation. A case about the incident has been registered in Amasebail police station.
