Physically challenged man, bus driver assaulted at Moodbidri

Mangaluru, Jul 12: An unknown group of miscreants allegedly assaulted a physically challenged man and a bus driver on Moodbidri-Mangaluru national highway at Belaccharu on Saturday afternoon, July 11.

The victims have been identified as Mijar Urki resident, physically challenged Sandeep (27) and bus driver Himakar Harish. The two men were standing beside the road at Mijaru Bellacharu when a group of 15 to 20 people started assaulting Himakar. Later they also assaulted Sandeep who was standing nearby with a helmet. As Sandeep collapsed, they kicked him with their boots.

Earlier, a car had hit a pedestrian on Saturday afternoon at Edapadavu prior to the incident. It was followed by heated arguments between the local people and those who caused the accident. It is said that those in the car came with a group of men and assaulted these two.

The injured men have been admitted to Moodbidri community health centre.
