Worried about future, man commits suicide at bus stand building

Bantwal, Jul 13: Muhammed Rafiq alias Painter Rafiq (33), son of Shahul Hameed from Okkettoor in Vittal Casba village committed suicide by hanging himself in the bus stand building at Vittal on Sunday July 12.

He is survived by wife, two daughters, and a son.

Rafiq had started staying in a room in Heera Towers at the private bus stand at Vittal in the recent past. He worked as a painter. On Sunday, people had seen him in his room till 10 am. Later, when some workers came to call him, they saw that he had hanged himself.

It is gathered that Rafiq had borrowed heavily from various sources, and he was upset at not getting work continuously. He used to worry about his future, which appeared bleak to him, locals said.

As the death occurred in the bus stand, lot of people gathered there, giving rise to traffic chaos. The policemen arranged to disperse the crowd.

The police have taken a cell phone belonging to the deceased, and have taken up investigation on the basis of calls made.
