Bengaluru, Jul 13: The first no trust motion against the two-year-old Siddaramaiah regime moved by the opposition JD(S) was admitted by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa in Bengaluru on Monday.

The Speaker, who found the notice of no confidence by JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy against the Congress government in the State in order under the House Rule 167 took a headcount of the JD(S) members present in the House, announced his decision to admit it for discussion.

A one line notice signed by 33 members of the JD(S), was moved by the party’s floor leader Kumaraswamy expressed no confidence in the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers.

The Speaker announced that he would announce the day for the debate on Tuesday after studying the House procedures.

The principal Opposition BJP has not supported the motion.

Kumaraswamy, who was up in arms against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, moved the non-confidence motion, apparently out of pique at denying him an opportunity to speak on the alleged bribery scandal in the Karnataka Lokayukta during the session in Belagavi.

As soon as the Speaker admitted the notice, Siddaramaiah demanded an immediate discussion on it.

"I am ready for a debate on the no-confidence motion," he said.

The former JD(S) chief minister, who moved the motion in an attempt to expose corruption in the Siddaramaiah Government, said he was also ready for the challenge.

Even as members of both ruling and opposition parties indulged in a heated debate, the Speaker allowed the discussion on farmers’ suicides as the matter was already under discussion.
