Udupi, Jul 14: A felicitation program was organized on Sunday July 12 by Prithvi Institute of Management Education (PRIME), Udupi at Lions Bhavan, Brahmagiri, here for UPSC rank holder Priya Shetty who secured the 931st rank.

Udupi MLA, Pramod Madhwaraj speaking on the occasion said, "The number of students attempting the civil service examination from Udupi district is less compared to UP and Bihar states because of the lack of proper training and guidelines. At present parents enrol their children for a medical or engineering degree and then send them to foreign countries to settle down. The parent thinks this is a great achievement, but is it?"

Referring to UP and Bihar education Madhwaraj said that parents promote their children from childhood onwards to take up civil service examinations unlike the people of Udupi district.

He revealed that the state government is planning to introduce the same syllabus and a similar pattern question paper across the country. He hopes that Udupi district will secure the first rank as has been achieved in SSLC and PUC. Uniform syllabus may enrich the equality among people of the various states.

Capt Ganesh Karnik, member of the legislative council said, "India is a young democratic country. We are committed to our belief ‘I will do it for the nation’. Our focus must be crystal clear. A person should know where he will stand after five years.

He added, "Democracy creates leadership quality. When a citizen is enlightened there is accountability and responsibility. This commitment develops professionalism in the person."

Karnik also said, "There is a gap between the haves and the have nots. The political system has been changing gradually.

On receiving the honour, Priya Shetty thanked PRIME. This has been the best moment of her life. She said, "As a student, she had a long-term plan and so she began her coaching during her BSc degree. Indian Forest Service was her first option. This was her third attempt. Hard work with dedication is a must for an achiever."

Priya's advice to students is to attend competitive exam coaching centers during their free time/ week ends instead of engaging themselves in entertainment or recreational activities.

Rathna Kumar, founder of PRIME, Venkatesh Prasanna, U V Bhat, U S Achary, Ananth Kumar Bhat, A P Kodancha, Dinkar Kunja and others were present.

Radhakrishna Acharya, director of PRIME welcomed the gathering.
