Kasargod: Two youths killed after bus hits two-wheeler, lorry runs over them

Kasargod, Jul 14: Two youths died on Tuesday July 14 after a speeding bus hit their two-wheeler and a lorry ran over them.

The tragic incident took place on national highway at Manjeshwar Thuminadu old checkpost.

The deceased have been identified as Kunjathur Kanwateertha resident Shihab (18) and Kunjathur resident Sinan (19).

It is learnt that a speeding bus plying from Talapady to Kasargod hit their scooter and the two were thrown on the road due to the impact. A lorry plying from Kasargod towards Mangaluru then ran over them. While one died on the spot, the other breathed his last on the way to hospital. 

The lorry sped away without stopping. The angry locals hurled stones at the bus and damaged it. The bus driver fled from the spot.

Manjeshwar police who arrived at the spot resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the mob.

A case has been registered in Manjeshwar police station.

    Innalillahi wa inna ilaihirajiwoon... One way road is highly required for NH 17(Kerala part). Construction on process in this part but only till Karnataka talappady(state border). Due to land problems and non cooperation of civilians in Kerala part govt couldn't process or pass the order. Heavy traffic, blocks and accidents became daily news in this highway.. People who against one way project should be equally blamed for such accidents or lose of innocent lives. Straight action should be taken by the authorities on those who refuse to give land for one way project and those who protest against this project. May Allah protect everyone from such deaths.. Ameen.

    Please take note drivers of two wheelers. Please wear helmets without fail and always be alert while driving and avoid rash driving.

    Precious lives of two promising youths are lost due to negligent driving of a bus and what is worse is that the driver of the lorry which ran over the poor boys sped away without making any attempt to render any help to the poor victims

    Hope the Government will come down severely on the erring drivers.

    My sympathies go to the bereaved parents and relatives of the poor victims.

    Instead of 2 wheelers if it is car these boys will survive. Two wheelers are not suitable to our road. Many Countries have separate lanes for 2 wheelers. It is better avoid riding 2 wheelers and elders should advise youngsters. May the soul of young boys rest in peace.

    Shame on you Mr.George. what a shameful comment by you. Road accident due to negligence over speed driving also is blamed to govt?
    Most of the youths drive without wearing helmets and without following traffic rules. overtaking and going on wrong side might have been the coz of accident. and heavy vehicles go in high speed on National Highways.
    For sixty years lacs of people died due to Road traffic accidents. will u blame it to Italians? or any congi?

    How many accidents we have to witness in Mangalore-Kasargod and Mangalore-Bhatkal national highway before taking actions on these private bus drivers on their reckless driving.

    How did you assume it was recklessness from the heavy vehicle? Do you drive on highways? I always experience recklessness from 2 wheelers on highways, they can turn instantly without indication, can come suddenly on wrong side, they are on the road suddenly from the side road. My experience, just wanted to share.Controlling a heavy vehicle at last minute is difficult...think u know
