Bengaluru, Jul 15: Director general and inspector general of police, Sushant Mahapatra, who also happens to be the chairman of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, has approached the Lokayukta, alleging irregularities running into hundreds of crores of rupees in works undertaken by the corporation. He met Upa Lokayukta, Subhash B Adi, and handed over a complaint, naming city police commissioner, M N Reddi, for these irregularities during the latter's tenure in the housing corporation.

The complaint alleges irregularities in works executed since 2012, during which period, M N Reddi happened to the the additional director general of police and working in the corporation. The complaint also mentions the name of inspector general of police, Seemant Kumar Singh. The Lokayukta however, is yet to register a case.

Upa Lokayukta, Subhash B Adi, concurred that Mahapatra met him and handed over certain documents. He confirmed that the Lokayukta was yet to register a case. 'We have sought more documents, which he has promised to furnish on Wednesday or Thursday. We will decide about steps to be taken after verifying all the documents,' he said.

It is said that for works in the corporation worth over five core rupees, open tender should be called, and for works over Rs 50 crore, getting nod of the cabinet is mandatory. The complaint of Mahapatra reportedly says that rules were flouted with impunity in various works like construction of residential quarters and police stations by the corporation, and the contract for the works were allotted to people of their choice.

M N Reddi however, took the stand that he has done nothing wrong. He feigned ignorance about the reason behind filing a complaint against him, but clarified that he would furnish replies and explanations as and when sought.
