Udupi: Scrap deal - Doctor orders phone online, gets stone instead

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Jul 15: In yet another case of its kind in Udupi, a person who purchased a mobile phone from an online shopping website was delivered a stone instead.

Dr Savio D'Souza, a resident of Shankerapura, had placed an order on Snapdeal for a Micromax Canvas Hotknot A99 8 GB phone worth Rs 6,350 including tax. He placed a prepaid order.

As Snapdeal has no office in Udupi, the parcel was delivered by FedEx courier on Tuesday July 14.

However, on opening the parcel, Dr Savio D'Souza found to his utter shock that instead of the mobile phone he had ordered, there was a stone in its place, of a weight equivalent to that of the phone.

When contacted, the FedEx officials said that they could not take responsibility for the incident as they have no scanning facility in their Udupi office and their job was to only deliver the product. They also asked Dr Savio to contact Snapdeal about it.

As Dr Savio works in KMC and has a busy schedule, he has been unable to file a complaint yet.

This is not the first time such incidents are being reported in Udupi. In at least two such cases earlier, customers who ordered products from Flipkart online shopping received stones instead of the actual products.

    100% this is local chamthkar..

all bid online vendors will have video coverage of packing...

dear daiji readers, when you order something online, follow a few things what i learnt :

    - dont order by telephone, they will do lot of spelling mistakes.
    - oder only using internet, write your name & address properly.

    - kumar or kumara... beacuse for refund of money in case of deficient service, they cant correct the name later.

    - buy only when you have good internet connection with laptop after spending enough time..

    - dont pay in advance... always go for cash on delivery... open the box, see the material & then pay..

it is useful to buy through amazon & flipkart & snapdeal,etc... BUT..

ONLY CASH ON DELIVERY...... otherwise big NO...

We got cheated by Home-Shop-18 when we purchased steel bowls. On TV show they displayed total sixteen bowls with lid and sixteen spoons and announced that the buyer will get 8 bowls free if we immediately order 8 bowls shown on the TV. But when we received the parcel we found only eight bowls with lid and eight steel spoons only. When we inquired over phone about this, they told the offer was only this much - that is eight spoons free for eight bowls, which makes total sixteen. Unfortunately the Home-Shop 18 people cant speak English and they can speak only Hindi just like our ATM Card cheaters.

I am sure, this is local Courierwala ka chamatkar.

Easily they escape saying , we don't have scanning machines here??

Secondly, if any Bomb what they will do??

Sure there is a gang of Courier delivery boys involved in this.

Once the Online shop should really send a empty box, saying Cell Phone inside. or keep a dummy item.

Then should keep a track, who delivers this particular box.

Daiji you have a good Sense of Humor "Scrap-Deal"

These online companies should come up with better way of packing materials which are consistent throughout.

EG : a One time Seal, which once opened can never be put back rather than the glue tapes.

Once can use a hair dryer to take these kind of glue based tapes easily.

Snapdeal, ebay and flipcart are very reliable and trustworthy companies.I buy regularly from them. think local courier boys mess up things.I always open the pack in front of them. What I heard some boys open the parcel in the delivery office and switch things sometime. I advice CCTV coverage in the dispatch and delivery handling area. Also recommended check actual weight of the package before its leaves for delivery.

Online firms should shoot a video, while packing the stuff and send to the buyer thru whatsaap along with the tracking number. This practice may help to catch the culprits.

I agree on this. Am a regular customer of Snapdeal and they wouldn't do such things. Even they have a very good customer service, whenever there's returns/ replacement or refunds. As per my experience they monitor every order personally. Need to check on the local courier guys.

Shame on FedEx that they don't have scanning facility. I am sure its the courier company or its staff involved in this mischief. I have purchased four Symphony coolers online. and their service was excellent.they delivered on time and when I complained that one of the coolers was slightly damaged. immediately was taken away and replaced within a weeks time. Please don't malign a good company like snapdeal.Fedex is responsible.
