Udupi, Jul 16: The employees at the sub-registrar's office stopped work for an hour on Wednesday July 15 morning demanding an accurate reason for the termination of two contract based workers from the office and seeking a solution to their problem. At the same time work in the office increased as more people came in with their own jobs to be addressed. Due to this the employees resumed work at the office.

Sukhesh, an employee of the sub-registrar's office alleged that the sub-registrar, Janaki has been imposing work on the employees for the past 15 days. She sternly warned them to finish off 30 files a day, but they were not able to complete them in 8 hours. Several procedures need to be followed to record a file and that takes time. She recently terminated two contract based workers from the office without issuing any notice. The two workers have been working there for 10-12 years and the stressful work has given them sleepless nights.

Ram Bhat a resident in the locality, alleged that the roof of the building has completely worn out due to poor construction. There is no convenient seating arrangement either for the public even though there is enough space and a senior citizen has to stand till his/her work is done. During a heavy downpour, water splashes on people who are on the verandah.

Janaki's argument was quite contrary to the employees statements. She said, "Who am I to terminate contract workers? I am not responsible for that. They have simply created a scene in front of the media. All the five workers are now doing their job. There is no work pressure and we have not given them any deadline. Yes, the work was blocked for a few days by the Bengaluru office. Besides that no harassment has been reported from the employees."
