Bengaluru, Jul 17:
Christ University, Bengaluru, has announced the launch of a new certificate programme for Managing Family Business (MFB). The programme has been specially designed to groom the younger generation of family-owned businesses, for leadership and will cover key aspects of how the next generation can contribute to take family businesses to the next level. The 10 week course will be conducted in association with Kanara Entrepreneurs Global (KEG), a non-profit corporation founded by a large group of successful Entrepreneurs from the Kanara region in Karnataka.

Announcing the programme, Dr Fr Thomas C Mathew, vice-chancellor, Christ University said, "Christ University has formulated a Strategic Plan 2015–18 and adopted the goal to emerge as a world class university of eminence through performance and differentiation. The MoU with KEG and the new programme - "Managing Family Business", is an initiative in this direction. Under the emerging trend of "family owned but professionally led" family businesses, we expect this timely programme to be well received by our students."

The curriculum for the MFB programme has been developed in consultation with leading industrialists and is contextualised to the needs of the younger generation of family members. It will strengthen strategy and leadership skills among students as well as bring to the fore templates and solutions to unique family business related challenges.

Spread over of 10 weeks and 30 sessions, MFB will have the content and rigor of top management programmes, contextualised to the needs of family businesses. The classes will be a combination of case studies, group discussions, project work and presentations. MFB aims to support young business leaders to realise their growth aspirations by providing modern management tools and help professionalise their businesses.

Expert faculty from Kanara Entrepreneurs will come in to provide practical insights. Members of Kanara Entrepreneurs come with rich, hands on experience in operating businesses like textiles, transformers, hospitality, printing & publishing, consultancies, etc. Topics covered will include family ownership, importance of succession, professionalism in family business, scaling of family businesses, corporate governance, and conflict resolution.
